Railroad, interstate brought changes to Town of Kirkwood

It lies on the northern side of the Susquehanna River and was named after James Pugh Kirkwood, the chief engineer of the New York and Erie Railroad who was instrumental in building the Starrucca Viaduct and bringing the railroad through this area in 1848.
